The Recollections of: Gunbound

This game right here was probably my most played game throughout all of high school even though I would constantly stop playing at times. I remember hearing my friend Ray talking about it in Grade 8 french class, so I was about 13 at the time of starting this game. The game was basically brand new, possibly just finished beta when I started playing and that was the 'golden age' of this game.

So the game is basically a turn based shooter that at first, was nothing more than people having fun and shooting. Then people started realising that the game was basically one long unknown math formula to perfect every shot. There was wind power, shot power, angle of shot, distance of target, elevation, and environment that all played a role in your shot. Once people learned everything they could about these factors, it basically came down to human error of whether you hit or not. The good thing was, not a large population of people either had this information, knew it existed, or cared about it.

The first big update

This is where the game first started going out of control. Gunbound realised they were fairly popular and started coming up with some pretty outrageous 'cash only' aspects of the game, meaning you had to pay real money to get some advantages. Although most of these were avatar items, equipment that made your character stronger; a large population played almost entirely in the avatar off servers, meaning everyone was on an equal playing field. At the time the only other advantage out there was the membership style coupons you could buy, giving you bonus money and points in game and making your lobby show up first. So although the game had some flaws, it wasn't too bad and I still highly enjoyed the game for what it was, although they also released a second version of each map and about 90% of them were god awful.

 The end of gunbound

This is where the decided to get way too greedy and completely destroy a great game. I'm not sure if I missed a big update but I'm fairly sure this was the next and last big one. So basically what they did was realise that people were willing to pay money for this game and came up with the biggest advantages they could give people, for a price. There was, overpowered mobiles you could buy temporary license for, item 2, which was a ridiculous boost in your attacks in many ways depending on which one you used. There was pets that you could level up to give you bonus stats and they also had some abilities. Mobile cards which, depending on the level of card you got, made the mobile on the card much stronger. So basically if you had the money, you were very unlikely to be dying to someone who wanted to pay for free. This is when I quit for my longest break. All of these advantages, combined with the fact that many more people were using all these formula's to make sure they never missed a shot and the game completely lost all it's fun factor. They also completely took out the wind in the lower level servers, meaning if you hit your shot, you basically never missed again even without formula's.

My favorite mobile since the beginning

I did recently try this game again and that's mostly what made me want to write about it now. This game was my favorite for years, I met many good friends on here and had so much fun. Sadly it was killed off by it's own company and those that can't have fun without trying their absolute hardest at such a laid back game. The game is now very under populated, the Gunbound Classic private server actually has a higher population than this game, although it's very difficult to find an English lobby. Not that it's any easier on the real gunbound server either though.. So for any of those that are looking to pick up the game again, I would recommend the private server over the official one.
