So once again this could, in a way, fall under video games but since it's got more to do with the ideas behind them and not the games behind the names, I'll file it under Life. I'm sure there are plenty of nicknames I've had throughout my life
so I'm obviously not going to go into all of them, but just the ones
that stuck around for a while for me.
My first online experience
Diablo 1 is where it all started. Shortly after we got our computer, this was one of the first games we got and probably my most played. The game was more about the single player back then but it did have an online mode and when I decided to step into that, I had my dad set up my account and the name he came up with for me: CoolKid999. Quite possibly the worst name I've ever seen but hey, I was like 6 so I loved it.
My childhood right here
Everquest was probably the single most played game of my life thus far. So naturally a couple of names came through my time on this game, the first one being Malinbone. I wanted to be a necromancer, conjurer of the dead so I needed something that fit that but I honestly had no idea. I decided to look around in some fantasy books we had in the house and this name stuck out to me and I stuck with it. Many years later out of random curiosity I tried finding the name in the book again, turns out I misread the word when I first saw it and the name was actually Malniboné, being a country in the fantasy world of the book. The second name that came from Everquest was Tavoc. The name actually came from a card game called Magic: The Gathering, something I was really into during grade 6 at school since a bunch of friends played it as well. There was one card in particular, it was a legend card and for some reason the name stuck out to me, Tsabo Tavoc. So while I was playing everquest I had a character named Tsabo but it was made on the account my dad mainly played on so I didn't get to play that character much. We had another account for the game so I eventually just made another character of the same class but since Tsabo was taken, I named it Tavoc. This name stuck around for quite awhile, it was my Gunbound name for the 6 years I played the game as well.
My current nickname online
So since I stuck with Tavoc from basically 13-19, other than some random names, I generally stuck with the name until I finally got bored and decided to come up with something new. Acute.Anthrax was a name that took a bit of development but basically it started in a game called Maplestory. I was make a fire/poison magician and I was going to focus on the poison aspect of the class, so that's where the Anthrax came from since it's a word that I just like the way it sounds and is a disease. The character was a girl for whatever reason and since I suck at thinking of girly names I just named it CuteAnthrax, since it sounded girl but also contradicted itself. After this name I started focusing almost all of my future online names with Anthrax in the name and needing something to add to it, I started googling about anthrax to see what I could add on and still tie it in the disease itself. Well with luck I found out that Anthrax is an acute disease so I stuck that one the front of the name since it makes since from a medical point of view and it also still sounds like it says A cute anthrax, contradicting itself again. I obviously could just keep the name AcuteAnthrax but for whatever reason I put a period in the middle splitting the words as Acute.Anthrax and I actually read the name to myself as 'AcuteDotAnthrax.' I have no idea why but I personally prefer it that way. Not that anyone else would actually think that's how it's said and call it that so I obviously get called AcuteAnthrax. I don't care how people say it, but just for those that didn't know, now you do.
